Go English - Featured Elementary School

Welcome to Blarchmont!

Blarchmont Elementary School is located in the middle of Kimberley within walking distance of the Civic Centre arena, Rotary Park and the city's brand new recreation centre and pool (under construction -- opening April, 2006).

The school has 150 students in grades K-5. Children range in age from 5 - 10 years old and go to and from school on foot, by school bus or in their parents' cars. The school has a staff of six teachers, two teacher assistants and a principal. Parents are encouraged to be active in the school as volunteers in the classroom and on field trips. Children attend school Monday to Friday from the beginning of September to the end of June.

Blarchmont Elementary

Playground and soccer field

While the building itself is not brand new, Blarchmont is a fully equipped, modern education facility with a computer lab, gymnasium and a library inside to go along with a soccer field, baseball diamond and a large playground area outside. The atmosphere on the schoolgrounds is fun and active making it a great place for international students to make friends and practice their English.

The atmosphere in Blarchmont's classrooms is equally fun and active but the focus is on academic learning and personal development. Teachers work to cultivate a classroom culture that encourages communication between the students. Children often work in pairs and groups on projects and enjoy a broad-based curriculum that targets language arts, math and science in addition to art, music and physical education.

Mrs. McRae's grade 5 class

Blarchmont has hosted ESL students in the past and is looking forward to opening its doors to a new group of international students beginning in September, 2005. For a welcome message from the children of Mrs. McRae's Grade 5 class, press "play" below:
